Theological Counsel in the Early Quaker Movement

Early Quakers have not typically been noted for their espousal of political counsel. This article proposes that its cohort powerfully made the case ‘counsel God’ in politics. counsel was, perhaps paradoxically, both intensively inward, deriving from light God within, and universalistic external, given could emanate any individual. was distinct most contemporary applications conciliar rhetoric, although some conceptual practical similarities are considered. explores, finally, diversity seventeenth-century conceptions theological alongside Quakers, suggesting further directions research.
